If there was anything good to be said about the wastelands it was the fact that no-one in their right mind would live there. Thus, it was a prime location for anyone who wanted to get away from everything in the most literal sense of the word.
That was why Simone had chosen to live there. Four acres was all that she claimed for herself, having worked for months at building up her home when she was 18 years of age. She would pilfer wood and various other building materials, using her old truck to drag it out some ten miles from the town. Over the span of six months she build herself a home, toiling night and day as she added rooms, bathrooms, a kitchen...everything.
Electricity and plumbing came into effect several months after the actual house was built. She had to convince a few men from the town who actually knew about such things to come out to her home to add them. But once it was all said and done she had a pretty nice looking five bedroom, six bathroom house with a large kitchen, living area, and even a fireplace.
She hadn't bothered with the concept of a pool. Nor with water for her grounds not caring if she had plant life at her home or not. As long as she could bathe, she was content.
Then, as construction finally completed, she went into town with her remaining savings and bought three pairs of unrelated Rottweiler's. She had chosen her business, and her security.
Over the years to follow, she bred and rained her own pack of dogs. Simone became known for having a vicious pack of Rottweilers that wouldn't hesitate to rip a man to shreds at her command. A few, she would sell here and there for others to use, and raise. But only if she deemed them worthy, and kind enough to care for her creatures.
Simone stood on the patio of her home, large dog near her side. Nearly ten or more others lay out on the dry barren ground, chewing at various bones. Some pups played with each other near their mothers large paws.
In all it was peaceful. Just how the winged woman liked it.
Her pale hand rested on her dogs head, and she smiled down at him. For being a lone woman, in the wastelands, who was rumored to feed people to her dogs...she appeared very warm. Her eyes were filled with love for the creatures she raised, and her body language was smooth and welcoming. The kind you'd expect from a very close family member.
The brown haired woman breathed in, long whip like tail resting on the ground behind her. She was relaxed, peaceful, happy.
A bark from one of the dogs near the gate caused all others to stop, pausing. She shifted her battered wings behind her, folding them neatly as she started to walk down the stairs. Brutis, the large dog behind her, followed with his head low.
Who was coming to visit?

She had been here thousands of times before. It never really changed. Even when it was a bustling utopia, it was still hollow, lacking.
Her train ride had been empty. No one wants to come to the place where God doesn't listen and the Devil is everywhere. She just grinned as she opened the gate to the huge property.
She had come for one of the devils. It was quite apparent. She had calmed one of the brutes down by stroking its massive head and talking to him. She looked over at Simone, smiling slightly.
"Simone.....? I presume? Lovely pack you have here. I've heard stories, but they are much more fierce in real life." She rested her hands on her hips.
"You sellin any right now...?"

Simone snapped her fingers, and the dog that was appreciating this newcomers touch moved quickly to her side, sitting down. It's eyes never left the visitor. Neither did any of the dozens of other sets that had gathered around the woman.
She eyed this girl thoughtfully, then turned. Eyeing the dogs she thought about it for a quiet moment, then clapped her hands once.
"Down." The dogs all lay down, and she strode to the gate that led to the yard, opening it for the girl.
"Depends. What do you need?"

The girl gave somewhat of an amused smile at her. She walked on in, staring at every last one of the dogs. More like demons, really. She smiled smugly, turning to face Simone.
"I want a dog that I know will kill. No second thoughts. I give the word, and they feast. I know you have some like that. You have quite the reputation in the City as the best guard dog breeder around."

Brutis was at Simone's side. She looked down at him, and gracefully, the beast reared up on his legs, placing his paws on her shoulders. Simone smiled softly at him, rubbing his chest before she clicked her tongue.
It was an order to drop, which Brutis promptly obeyed.
She looked at the girl for a moment, then, dryly answered. "My dogs are not tools. Unless you have need of any other service, you may leave."

Her smile sharply turned into a frown. She stuck out her neck slightly, arching an eyebrow.
"Is that what it sounded like? Cuz it sure sounded like I answered what you asked."
She cocked her hips to the side, no longer amused. She had come for a dog. She was going to get one.

"I said it depended on what you needed," Simone answered simply, tail flicking to the side, away from the newcomer.
"You told me you needed a soulless, worthless tool, used only to destroy life. That, is not what I sell here. Your better off getting a gun."

She nodded slightly. That was it. She hadn't heard her words interpreted in such a way. She scratched her chin in thought, wondering what to do or say next.
She had to hurry, for it looked as though she was trying the other woman's patience. She looked over at her. She gave a small smirk.
"I wouldn't trust me with a dog either." She replied simply.

"All the more reason to get something else then," Simone snapped her fingers, walking towards her home. All the dogs raised themselves, following after her.
She looked over her shoulder giving a wry smile, "Humans are quite useful enough. Expendable too."

Katie allowed herself a surprised smile. It was a pleasant surprise. At least they were on some sort of the same level. She chuckled as she turned to take her leave. Just like that. She had no further business with Simone.
The train ride there hadn't been a waste. She simply lacked a home. Nothing was a waste.
Human interaction had been a waste, but this....this was different. She closed the gate behind her, strutting off into the desert.

Simone paused, staring after the girl. After a moment, she let out a shrill whistle. A young, short rottweiler, a runt, jogged up to her. She knelt down, rubbing its head and back for a second, then grumbled something.
The dog broke into a run, chasing down the girl that had intruded on Simone's territory, easily leaping over the gates. It gave a small yip, then trotted ahead of her.

Katie's brown eyes focused for a second, then unfocused. The hell was that? She saw the young dog bouncing around in front of her. She smiled and patted her legs so the dog would come to her.
And he happily did. She smiled as she rubbed his head, messing with the excess skin. The dark beast wagged its entire behind, obviously happy to see her.
She allowed a giggle.
Sure he wasn't the pick of the litter. Neither was she. Still, he was a companion for the lone hyeness.
"Blitzkreig." She whispered to him.

Simone smiled warmly, then let out a low, rumbling order. A strange sound that definitely didn't match any word.
And her dogs were back to the usual play as the woman walked inside, humming peacefully.
