ORIGIN AND HISTORY
Their homeland originates from Latin America, somewhere near California and extends all the way down to Brazil. Most of them lived towards the Amazon River. The breed was found by a spainiard explorer in search of gold. Where instead he found these massive beasts, hoarding it for themselves. The spainiard found some intelligence in their protecting, concluding that the monsters understood humans wanted this substance. So, on a whim, he tried to tame the beasts and wield them for his own usage. Since then, reports from all around history have been found about the useage for protection, food, and have been smuggled into other areas of the world. Ever since the smugglings, they have evolved dramatically, and taken on the forms of their human caretakers. That, and their size has increased dramatically. Much interbreeding has been done with this race ever since they were given rights sometime in the 1890's. They have since either been slaves, or freed from their masters.
GENERAL APPEARANCE
Hair: The hair is usually worn long, and the re-dying of it is highly looked down upon in this society. Some have natural dreadlocks due to the texture of it. They have a tuft at the end of their tails that matches the very same hair on their heads. Neon colored hair is not uncommon.
Scales: Are usually dark grey, but can range from light silver to black. The rarest of the colors is the solid white, which only occurs in the case of albino's. In this case, the black markings are a dull yellow color, and the eyes are always red. The lazor shot from this albino can be either red or white.
Eyes: Resemble dinosaur eyes and can be any color. There is no "most common color". Rarest of the colors are the tri-colored eyes.
Markings: Are usually tribal for males, and softer for females. Always black in color unless the dragon is albino. Markings are unique for each dragon. No two are alike, unless the children are identical twins.
Horns: Rare, but not unheard of. Their horns vary greatly from straight and pointed back wards, to curly and pointed forwards. Horns tend to be either black in color or a lighter shade of eye/mane color. Most though, are black at the base, and a secondary color around the end, and disappear most times with the coming of their humanoid form.
They keep their manes, eyes, tails, and markings when in human form. While in human form, their ears become long and pointed.
DRAGON DESCRIPTION
They do not have wings, but some are born with deformed membraneless bat wings on their backs. Others can simply levitate through much training. They can't breathe fire, but rather, they shoot lazors the same color as their eyes or manes from their jaws. Although they are denied powers that almost every other dragon has been granted, they are noteably bigger in muscle mass, and (in their dragon form) can grow to be as tal as a skyscraper. Their necks are not long and graceful like other races, rather they are throaty and thick, supporting their massive, tyrannosaur-like heads. Each dragon's markings is unique to his own genetic code. Like tiger stripes. Females usually don't have markings on their faces unless she has a higher testosterone level.
They all have different things they naturally want to protect, be it a person, object, or even a custom; and they will fight to the death to keep it protected. But since the beginning, they started taking on a more humanlike appearance, switching from human to dragon frequently.
Lazors: these dragons have a few more organs that help produce the lazors. In one of the organs, it produces acid. The acid has a chemical reaction with oxygen and the lazors form from out of the jaws in the back of the throat. It takes a while to make, so they cant just spout lazors every five seconds. One organ makes the acid, the second stores it, then they take a huge breath, and fire away.
MATING, GESTATION, PREGNANCY, AND BIRTH
These dragons choose their mates, and most dragons mate for life, and are fiercely loyal to that one mate. Others, sadly, not so much. STRICTLY females concieve and give birth. Pregnancy lasts from three months to six. Any in between. Unlike a lot of races, the female can CHOOSE when to have the child. If born around three months, the mother chose to have the child as a dragon. If closer to six months, she more than likely chose to have the child/children as a humanoid.
When giving birth as a dragon, she will lay an egg/clutch of eggs. She can turn human after the birth and tend to them before they hatch, but she has to wait a while till her children are actually born. On the other hand, if she gives birth as a humanoid, she can see her child immediately.
AGING
Jergonians age according to their lives. If their lives are full of protecting what they love, they will live longer. This being said, a lot of them die shortly after their mate/spouse. Sickness does stricken the race if they go too long without a purpose. This sickness is deadly and hard to treat, usually resulting in the poor dragon's death. The dragon's markings fade after a while in their lives, their hair becomes silver, and the eye color dulls. The elders can endure longer periods of time without their purposes.
The oldest recorded Jergonian was over 100,000 years old before she died of the Jergon sickness.
EXAMPLES OF WHAT THEY PROTECT
Anything worth defending.
Examples include: Mothers, women, eggs, treasure, justice, culture, graves, animals, plants, family members, friends, cities, toys, children, homeland, etc.
Less common are such things as Skulls, daggers, cars, water, things you cannot control, etc. These are usually taken up by the less sane of the species.
